Hangers and Matchsticks

In our everyday life and social media, there is always a rally going on against body shaming and for body acceptance. In this culture creation for more body positivity, the concept of #thinspiration, unfortunately, still remains and the rampant skinny-shaming gets pushed to the sidelines. When people, especially women, are getting skinny-shamed, they are quite often compared to thin objects like stick or matchsticks. Various statements like “Oh, on you the clothes look like they’re hanging on a hanger” or “Please eat some, you look anorexic or weak” are made. Not only do these statements objectify the main target, women, but they also turn their eyes away from the deep-rooted mental and physical health issues someone might face as a result. It’s not funny to casually body shame anyone or compare them to objects even out of “concern”.
